Applications and Tools I have designed:

Below is a listing of applications and tools that I have designed to make work or life a little easier for myself, a coworker or a client.  The list of applications is in reverse order chronologically.

Areas
responsible for:
Entirely responsible for tracking all machines, equipment, supplies, service calls and response times, and tracking customer requested jobs and reports.  Responsible for all Internet interface design, web database design, and programming to utilize web based connectivity to mainframe systems, and imports to various legacy and current systems.
Time frame: Ongoing project.
Info: This is an internal program and not available for sale or preview.  Additionally taking this system to tie into a web based method to allow customers to work more directly with the data while keeping control of the internal data.  The current system is additionally connected to various systems using Intranet/Internet technologies to connect directly into for submitting/receiving data from legacy mainframe systems.

This applications included a 428 page user's manual.  The user manual was printed and was also converted to web pages and placed on an intranet web server.  The user manual included instructions on the use of the program and business processes.  It also included a section that covered commonly occurring errors relating to data and the proper methods to detect and correct.

The technical documentation was the database itself.  The plan was to print out the documenation from the database using the Access Database Documentor, however printing was done only to a 17 megabyte PDF file because the results of the Database Documentor was 10,000+ pages in length.

Internet Billing
Based on: Access 97 (currently), Access 2.0 and Access 95 (previous versions)
Purpose: Tracks Internet Users and allows Internet Service Providers to bill for monthly charges, usage charges, one-time charges, manually entered charges.
Areas
responsible for:
Reports including the Aged Receivables, Balance Due, Deposit Slip, and Internet Admin Batch Processing report.

Time frame: Worked from the end of August 1997 to October 2nd to complete the programming for the last release of this product.  There were no other Access programmers available to work on this project at the time.
Info: You can look at the details of this program at www.coolworld.com.

Customer Tracking Tool
Based on: Access 97 (currently), Access 95 (previous versions)
Purpose: Tracked customers of Coolworld.com, invoicing, payments, support and sales calls, automated mailing processes using MAPI and Outlook interfaces to email customers and potential buyers.  For the purpose of software key sending, the Outlook interface was also used to attach a small Access mdb file to email to the customer, after an automated process through DAO processes to place key registration into the software key.  Reports were created to provide for salesperson results used in the calculation of payroll.  Multiple database connections, that allowed for IIS connections from the Web Page for customers to request pricing information, report wish list requests, and software key registration information.
Areas
responsible for:
Designed the entire program interface and implemented all reporting aspects for the program.  Designed the application based upon the internal needs of Coolworld.com.
Time frame: This tool was created at the beginning of my employment and was added to according to needs expressed by employees using the application.
Info: This tool was entirely internal to Coolworld.com.  The program was in the process of being slowly phased out of use as the Internet Billing product began to provide some of the functionality necessary to internal processing needs.

MassEmail Database
Based on: Access 97 (currently), Access 95 (previous versions)
Purpose: Tracked email addresses for spamming potential customers.
Areas
responsible for:
Maintained the database and created queries to pull out email address for spamming for marketing Internet Billing.
Time frame: This tool was created before my employment but was not linked to the Customer to place "do not mail me again" information into the database..
Info: This tool was entirely internal to Coolworld.com.

Bob's Diabetes Tracker

Example of this database is located here

Based on: Access 97, now in Access 2002

Areas
responsible for:
Designed the database entirely, which includes the VBA coding to calculate the values for each mail based on nutritional information obtained from the FDA.
Time frame: This application was created in 1995 during a time that I was adjusting meals, food, exercise, and living habits to reduce the changes of converting to an insulin dependent diabetic.  It was successful in helping me control and track what I was doing, I have not converted and now have very few diabetic symptoms.
Info: This application was at one point going to be setup as a standalone product for issue as shareware.  The plans are still there, but not the time to finish the product at this time.

Amzoil Dealer Application
Based on: Access 97 (currently), Access 95 (previous versions)
Purpose: Did this one for my parents.   They needed a way to track their Amzoil dealership information.
Areas
responsible for:
Created and designed an easy to use application to allow my parents to track their Amzoil dealership.  Placed into the application the ability to track customers, be able to tell when they would need to repurchase product and track all the purchases made easily.  Inventory tracking and automatically decrement inventory as items are sold.  The ability to create a report to reorder Amzoil product from the warehouse.  Additionally, if an order depletes the supply, the software indicates that the item will have to be backordered and places that information on the invoice for the customer.  Reporting for the dealer that includes a break down of cost, prices collected, taxes collected and paid, showing the net profit per order made.  Additionally, information necessary for reporting to the local, state and federal agencies for taxes.
Time frame: This tool was created in early 1995 for my parents.
Info: I do have this application ready to show.  It's not anything fancy, but it does do the job well, and provide much of the usefulness for my parents without causing many hours of phone calls while my parents search for their cursor.

Seattle Counseling Service Management Information System
Based on: Paradox 3.5 (DOS Version)
Purpose: Tracking clients, client contact, client payments and client billing.  Reporting to King County via modem for import to a UNIX based system.  Reporting for King County, Washington State, and United Way for funding purposes.  Tracking of all clinical contact for the entirely agency encompassing all the program areas.
Areas
responsible for:
Designed the program to meet SCS's computing needs for reporting to all agencies providing funds, including meeting all King County requirements for reporting of mental health contacts.  The MIS incorporated the extensive King County requirements and the diverse needs of all the other programs to provide a single place for entry and tracking all customer contact.
Time frame: This MIS was designed in 1994 from specifics gathered from King County and agency staff.  The MIS was designed, coded, ad implemented completely in a 6 month period.  Point of fact, although I was working alone on the design, coding and implementation of this program for our agency, SCS was the first in King County to successfully send valid data to King County and be fully functional.
Info: This application was funded by King County and directed by King County.  The data dictionary changed usually on a biweekly basis, but was completed successfully.  The additional features were added to make the product useful for the agency while providing a strong information system for reporting to King County and server as a tool to best utilize the computer resources available to the non-profit organization.

Client List
Based on: Paradox 3.5 (DOS Version)
Purpose: Tracking clients for Seattle Counseling Service
Areas
responsible for:
Designed the program to allow for the tracking of the client base at SCS.  This was done on my own time to show the management of the options that were available and was the first actual application designed by me.
Time frame: This tool was created in 1992 to show the management of SCS the capability of the computers that were available in the office.
Info: This agency, when I started, was using a combination of Word and Tandy's Deskmate to track all client information.  There were two computers in the agency, one of which was used only to connect to the State Mental Health system to track Mental Health Services.
